Pre-Requisite: Basic Defensive Pistol Course

Course Description: The Basic Defensive Pistol Course is a 1-day firearms training course focusing on enhancement of basic shooting fundamentals and combat gun-handling skills with the semi-automatic handgun.

Lesson 1: Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling

• Loading and Unloading Review
• Marksmanship Fundamentals Review
• The Modern (or Modified) Isosceles (MI) Stance

Lesson 2: The Mind is The Best Weapon

• Special Operations Combat Mindset & Mental Conditioning
• Tactical & Fieldcraft Acumen

Lesson 3: Building on the Basics

• Indoor/Outdoor Distance Estimation & Optical Illusions
• Admin Loading, Speed Loading & Tactical Loading
• The Press Check & Magazine Check
• Neutral Stance Position
• Compressed Ready Position
• Scanning, Situational Awareness & Threat Assessment
• The Flash (front) Sight Picture

Lesson 4: Static Drills

• Semi-Automatic Pistol Malfunctions
• Dry-Firing
• Fundamental Diagnostics and Correcting Fundamental Errors
• Clearing Malfunctions Drills
• Dry-Firing Drills
• Admin/Speed/Tactical Reloading Drills

Lesson 5: Live Fire Drills

• Known Distance (KD) Drills and Controlled Multi-shot Applications
• Basic Combat Pistol Qualification Course

Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age & possess a valid Illinois FOID card
• Notepad and Pen
• Eye and Ear Protection
• Crew-neck Type Shirt
• Lose-fitting (preferably "tactical") Trousers
• Closed-toe (preferably "tactical") Foot-wear
• Baseball/Operator Type Hat
• Heavy (gun/operator) Belt
• Holster and Magazine Carriers
• Personal Defense Semi-automatic Pistol
• Three (3) Hi-capacity Magazines Minimum
• Handgun Cleaning Kit and Gun Oil/CLP
• 100 rounds (minimum) of Ammunition
